Pergolas are designed to provide shade, with the size and spacing of the beams affecting the amount of shade offered. Beams that are spaced closer together will provide more shade than those that are farther apart.

A pergola is an enlarged arbor structure usually constructed to let elements such as wind, rain, or sunlight filter through. In contrast, a gazebo is a structure with a solid roof designed to block the weather. A pavilion is essentially a larger gazebo that can accommodate more people.

In modern times, the distinctions have become less clear, as some individuals may want a pergola but choose to cover it with various types of cladding materials, including polycarbonate or laser-cut designs using different construction materials. While the rustic appeal of wood is attractive to some, its durability is limited. As a result, we build with long-lasting materials like aluminum and composites and provide the option of polycarbonate roofing.

An arbor is an enchanting garden feature that acts as an inviting entrance. It might be made up of a series of beams, slats, or a lattice roof. Arbors often signify the entry to a garden, typically placed above a gate. They are commonly recognized as the curved frameworks used in wedding ceremonies, usually consisting of two or three pillars with a connecting overhead beam, and occasionally featuring a bench for seating. Compared to the more expansive pergola, an arbor is a smaller, more welcoming structure.

  A pergola is an outdoor structure made up of columns that support a roofing grid of beams and rafters. This grid can be left open or covered to create a sheltered area from the elements. Pergolas can be either freestanding or attached to a house and typically feature a roof constructed of two or three layers of lattice work. 

A gazebo is a charming, open-air structure featuring a solid roof designed to offer shade and protection from the sun. Typically octagonal, gazebos can also be rectangular. They are often referred to as smaller counterparts of pavilions.

A pavilion is an expansive, open-air structure upheld by pillars, topped with a sturdy roof to accommodate large groups. Similar to a pergola but with a protective roof, pavilions can stand alone or adjoin a building, making them ideal for events like family gatherings. Commonly found in parks, they provide a shared area and can be constructed from wood or metal. Pavilions are available in custom designs or as convenient, ready-made prefabricated pre-designed options.

We are asked all the time to take a pergola and install a roof onto them and that can be done with the plastic polycarbonate top or even a steel formed canopy top and long as the frame in in good condition.
